Healthcare Career College held its annual Professional Advisory Committee on Thursday March 21, 2019. Healthcare Career College’s Director of Career Services, Dr. Beth, had been busy at work the last few weeks reaching out to local medical professionals and inviting them to partake in the evening’s event. The event hosted an array of medical professionals from different areas in the industry. The PAC meeting is the perfect way for the school to keep a pulse of what the current industry looks like and provide behind the scenes details to our students. There were representatives for dental assistants, Licensed Vocational Nurses, medical coding, ultrasound, geriatrics, cosmetic surgery, and family practice. All of the medical professionals were ready and excited to provide some insightful information on what it looks like to work in their specific role in the medical field.
The student council was also in attendance of the meeting. Lined up in their grey scrubs, they were willing and ready to represent the student body in front of all the potential future employers. During their portion of the night, the students shared what kind of experience they encounter both as a student in their hands-on classes, as well as what they have had the opportunity to participate in as a Student Council member. For the students, the night was a great opportunity for them to meet some potential future employers and start networking.
Some employers had previously attended a Healthcare Career College PAC meeting, but for a few it was their first time. There was a section of the meeting allotted where the professionals discussed what they are looking for in new hires and what really makes a student stand out during the interview process. Ernest Sari, president of ERS Medical Billing, shared his experience he had had with one of our very own Computerized Medical Billing/Coding Alumni, Irma Marquez. Ernest shared that he was very impressed with the work ethic and determination that he saw from our student, stating that he is happy to have found a school to partner with knowing how well trained our students are in the medical coding and billing profession. Ernest was just one of the many employers that shared the positive experiences they had encountered upon meeting our students. Overall the night’s meeting was full of ideas, feedback, and networking. The PAC meeting not only gave Healthcare Career College a lot of insight into what the current medical industry looks like but more importantly revealed what needs are demanded in the medical field of our students.
